Ingredients
1 cup self-rising flour
¼ tsp salt
⅔ cup water
½ cup honey (sweetner)
1 tbsp unsalted butter
2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
Vidalia Onions (jumbo or colossal size)
Tallow, Lard, refined Coconut oil for frying
Directions
Slice onions ½ inch – 1 inch thick, and separate into rings. For 2 large onions, mix one cup honey & ice water (enough to cover the sliced rings). Soak rings in the honey sweetened ice water for one hour.
Make batter of flour, salt, water, unsalted butter, and egg whites. Heat cooking oil to 375°. Mix onion rings into batter, then dip into cooking oil until brown. Don’t overcrowd rings in cooking oil. Remove rings & cool on paper towels.
